Mossy Rock Ranch comprises 3500 acres in Brown County outside Cross Plains, TX, in the Rolling Plains Region. Established in April of 2010, Mossy Rock Ranch's original focus was on Whitetail breeding. After several years of Whitetail Breeding, there was a need to diversify the business, leading us to exotic hoof stock. Kurt has always had a passion for African Game and has had common exotics on the ranch for recreation since the ranch was established. As the evolution of the exotic industry in Texas has exploded, the decision was made to close our whitetail facility in the Spring of 2023 and turn all of our focus to breeding the highest quality exotic hoof stock, now with 28 species calling Mossy Rock Ranch home.

CONSERVATION

Another thing that has attracted Kurt to the exotic business is conservation. Working to be a small part of preserving endangered species' future is very fulfilling. Mossy Rock is home to Grevy's Zebra, Arabian Oryx, Addax, Scimitar Horned Oryx, and Red Lechwe, all endangered in their native rangelands. Without the conservation efforts of the Texas Exotic industry, these species could be extinct. This industry gives value to the animals, allowing Texas ranchers the resources to see that these species can continue to flourish in our great state.

SELECTIVE BREEDING

Our background in breeding whitetails for improved antler characteristics has encouraged us to do the same challenge in our exotics species. Kudu, Sable, Impala, Nyala, Nile Lechwe, and Fallow are the list we are currently most focused on. By breeding genetically superior bulls/bucks with the most desirable horn/antler traits, we are striving to consistently produce superior stock.
